Grasmere Gingerbread

Impress your guests at your Lakeland wedding with something very special to the area, and so completely different and delicious that they will never forget.

What is Grasmere Gingerbread®? Grasmere Gingerbread® is a unique Cumbrian delicacy. It was created in 1854 by Sarah Nelson and is still baked fresh everyday in the tiny Church Cottage in Grasmere from her 155 year old secret recipe. Why is Gingerbread given as a wedding favour? Gingerbread was one of the original favours – during medieval times at jousting competitions knights presented shield-shaped gingerbread love tokens to excited maidens who reciprocated with gold-coated gingerbread hearts. Ginger is an aphrodisiac – warm and spicy it intoxicates the blood, excites the senses and stimulates amour. What favours are available? Their special collection of wedding favours are presented as either delightful heart-shaped or traditional styled pieces of Grasmere Gingerbread® and packaged in a variety of options suiting all tastes, themes and prices – from just £1.30 each.

They also offer a personalised ribbon and calligraphy service. Emma, the wedding co-ordinator gives a personal dedicated assistance knowing that no wedding is the same! Visit the Grasmere Gingerbread® shop in Grasmere or contact Emma using the details below to see the full range.
